by Kristin Carleen Busse (Kristin)

What is the first thing you think of when you think of Cancun? The beach of course! Cancun's beaches are some of the most beautiful on the planet. Since Cancun is located on the Caribbean Sea, the water is an unbelievable turquoise blue. The beaches are made of white coral, so they never get hot. This unbeatable combination makes Cancun one of the most popular beach vacation destinations in the world.

All beaches in Cancun are public, even if there are hotels located on them, as they are owned by the Mexican government. There are 10 public beach access points in the Hotel Zone, and once you are on the beach, you may walk, swim and relax wherever you would like.

Cancun's Hotel Zone is shaped like the number 7. The beaches located on the top section of the 7 are facing Isla Mujeres (Island of the Women). They are protected by the island and tend to have calmer, shallower waters and are narrower. The beaches on the side of the seven tend to have deeper, rougher waters and are wider.
