What is the first thing you think of when you think of Cancun? The beach of course! Cancun's beaches are some of the most beautiful on the planet. Since Cancun is located on the Caribbean Sea, the water is an unbelievable turquoise blue. The beaches are made of white coral, so they never get hot. This unbeatable combination makes Cancun one of the most popular beach vacation destinations in the world.
All beaches in Cancun are public, even if there are hotels located on them, as they are owned by the Mexican government. There are 10 public beach access points in the Hotel Zone, and once you are on the beach, you may walk, swim and relax wherever you would like.
Cancun's Hotel Zone is shaped like the number 7. The beaches located on the top section of the 7 are facing Isla Mujeres (Island of the Women). They are protected by the island and tend to have calmer, shallower waters and are narrower. The beaches on the side of the seven tend to have deeper, rougher waters and are wider.

Playa Delfines (Dolphin Beach) aka El Mirador (The Lookout) is indisputably Cancun's most beautiful beach. Located at km. 20 (on the side of the seven), this is one of the few places in the Hotel Zone where there are no resorts built. In addition, large colorful letters spelling CANCUN were recently erected This is the newest, best place to take a vacation photo and there is normally a line to take pictures on weekends. There is also a small playground, exercise equipment, restrooms and showers. The water at Playa Delfines is generally very rough, so pay attention to the lifeguards' instructions.
Playa Tortugas (Turtle Beach) is located at km. 6.5 in the Hotel Zone (on the top of the seven). This is a bustling, busy beach that features a ferry dock, open-air restaurants, a small market, and bungee jumping. The waters here are calm, so it's a great place for children. Playa Tortugas is very busy on Sundays when locals flock to the beaches with their families.
Isla Blanca (White Island) is a hidden jewel of a beach located 25 miles north of Cancun. It's actually a small peninsula and there are no resorts, convenience stores or city services. There is no public transportation available either, so you'll need to rent car to get there, but it's worth the extra effort.
